CFP: The Flowers of Transition – The Art of Hungary in the 1980s

January 24th, 2022
  • Time and venue: May 27, 2022, Museum of Fine Arts – Central European Research Institute for Art History (KEMKI)
  • Format: Hybrid conference
  • Application deadline: March 1, 2022

The Central European Research Institute for Art History (KEMKI) organizes a kick-off conference of its research project examining the art of Hungary in the 1980s. The conference calls for an entangled analysis of the dominant residual and emergent artistic phenomena of the decade. How can we understand folk revival and postmodern painting, experimental media art, and the crisis of artists’ unions not only by acknowledging their coexistence but also by considering their interrelatedness?

Application

Organizers accept abstracts both in English and Hungarian. We encourage the application of graduate students and early-career researchers.

Abstracts (max. 500 words) of 15-minute papers and short CVs (max. 100 words) should be sent to juliusz.huth@szepmuveszeti.hu by March 1, 2022.

We ask to structure both the abstracts and the accepted presentations in the following way: What shall be researched? Why should it be researched? How should it be researched?

Organizing committee: Dávid Fehér, Júliusz Huth and Kristóf Nagy
