Vacancy for Doctoral candidate (PhD student) in the field of Transnational Contemporary History

The University of Luxembourg invites applications for the following vacancy in its Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH):

Doctoral candidate (PhD student) in the field of Transnational Contemporary History (m/f)

  • Ref I3-080013 / R-STR-8044-40-B
  • 14 months initial fixed-term contract, renewable up to 4 years
  • Full-time (40 h/week)
  • Student and employee status (36 months studies programme with a 12 months extension according to the thesis evaluation process)

The PhD student will be a member of the C²DH at the University of Luxembourg. He/she will work under supervision of Prof. Dr. Machteld Venken.

Your Role
  • Manage and drive forward an own research project in the domain of contemporary digital public history, more specifically in migration history and / or border studies
  • Attend doctoral school courses, trainings and social events
  • Write scientific articles and your PhD thesis
  • Disseminate your research at conferences and seminars
  • Contribute to research in the field of migration history and / or border studies
  • Participate in the research agenda of Prof. Dr. Machteld Venken

Your Profile
  • Master’s degree or diploma in history, political sciences, sociology, anthropology, digital humanities or related
  • Experience in qualitative research methods
  • Language knowledge: excellent command of two of the three following languages: German, English, French. Willingness to learn the other language.
  • Willingness to work in a multicultural and international environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Curiosity and self-motivation
