Jan Matonoha (Prague, Czech Rep) works at the Institute of Czech Literature, Academy of Sciences, CR. He has his M.Phil. from Glasgow (UK) and Ph.D. from Prague. Recently he was a Fellow to the British Academy in Sheffield for more than two years. He worked on several grant projects funded by various Czech Grant Agencies, as well as by the European Commission, and taught at various programmes for both foreign students (in English) as well as domestic ones (in Czech), including at Prague Film Academy, Centre of Gender Studies, Czech Literature Department (Charles University, Prague), East and Central European Studies (Arts Faculty of Charles University, Prague) etc. Apart from many journal articles, he published one book (with another one in print) and participated on several others, including The Politics of Gender Culture under State Socialism published (eds. Hana Havelková and Libora Oates Indruchová) by Routledge in 2014 (chapter “Dispositives of Silence: gender, feminism and Czech literature between 1948 and 1989”). For about six years was a member of an editorial board of a bimonthly Česká literatura (Journal for Czech Literature). His research interests are theory of literature, 20th century Czech and Central European literature, gender studies and animal studies.
