Marios Hatzopoulos teaches in the Hellenic Open University; he is also a researcher at the Research Centre for Modern History (KENI) at the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (Athens, Greece). As a former student of Anthony D. Smith, and historian, Marios specializes on nationalism and national identities in SE Europe. His research also focuses on Modern Greek and Ottoman history, prophecy and early modern political radicalism, popular mobilization and nation-state formation in the Balkans. In the late years, he has been fascinated by digital humanities. Hence he has been involved, along with Johannes Preiser-Kapeller of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, in the digital modelling of the Greek secret nationalist society Philike Etaireia (1814-1821) as a spatial and social network.
